What camera should be my first?

For the past few years, I've just been using my iPhones (currently using the iPhone 4) to take pictures, but I have always wanted to buy an actual camera. I've been saving up for a while to buy my first and now that I have enough to buy one, I was wondering what camera I should purchase as a first-timer's camera. I was thinking of buying something from Leica because of their praised quality, but I also want something portable (not necessarily pocket-portable, but easy to lug around). My budget is $2000, so I was considering the Leica X1 ($2000) or the Leica D-Lux 5 ($800). Which do you think is more worth the money and best suited for a beginner?
